LifeStraw has become one of the most popular water purification implements used world wide. Developed by Vesergaard Frandersen, a self professed "profit for a purpose" company, LifeStraw costs $6.50 per straw through the Rotary Club. But these straws are not simply single use throwaways.
A single LifeStraw can filter over 1,200 liters of water, removing 99.6% of the turbidity of the fluid. In layman's terms, this instrument clears the muck out of 317 gallons of water over its lifetime
Life straw currently operates at a $0.005/L cost ratio. While effective at an individual level, other filters can process more water and at a centralized gathering point.
